How to solve a problem of slippery cutting by safety scissors
1. Fix the Material Slipping
Safety scissors often have dull, rounded
blades, so smooth materials slide away easily.
Try these:
Use thicker paper (construction paper,
cardstock). Thin paper bends and escapes the blades.
Stabilize the paper with your non‑cutting hand by holding it closer to the cutting line.
Fold the paper to give it more rigidity.
Use a textured cutting mat underneath to
prevent sliding.
2. Choose the Right Type of Safety Scissors
Some safety scissors are too safe — meaning
the blades are so dull they can barely cut.
If possible, choose:
Blunt‑tip metal safety scissors (safer than sharp scissors but cut better
than plastic ones)
Spring‑assisted safety scissors (they reopen automatically, reducing
slipping)
Micro‑serrated safety scissors (tiny teeth grip the paper so it doesn’t slide)
If you want, tell me the age of the user
and what material you’re cutting, and I’ll recommend the best type.
